Maintaining commitment to a weight loss strategy is a challenge for many. It may seem easy to begin with, when our goals don’t seem so far away. At some point, though, your energy drops, and you are not motivated to continue. Many people, however, fail to experience this frustration. People do succeed in losing weight and keep it off for years. How do people maintain their goal weight for so long?
What you want to do in the beginning is decide your specific weight loss target. Do you want to fit back into your favorite outfit? Do you know how much weight you want to lose? Do you want to feel better about yourself, be a healthier person and have more strength overall?
You need to monitor your weekly weight loss. Ideally, you should weigh yourself on a weekly basis, and record your food and drink intake on a daily basis. By noting which foods and drinks we consume, we empower ourselves to make wiser weight loss decisions.
If you become too hungry, your ability to make rational food choices will diminish and you may end up on an eating binge that you will later regret. You can avoid these complications by planning ahead and bringing those foods with you for your meals. It is a good idea to bring a lunch with you from home. When you make your own lunch, you can control fat and calorie content, which is often high in restaurant meals. In addition, you can also save money!
Good nutrition and well-planned exercise sessions are the keys to a successful weight loss strategy. Forcing yourself to work out a few days a week will make sure that you are getting the exercise required to reach your goals. Exercise does not have to be in the gym or structured activities. In fact, social or family activities can provide just as much health benefit as structured exercise. Rollerblade by the beach, play tag with the kids or go bowling on your lunch hour. Any of these forms of exercise will get your heart pumping, and you will soon be on the way to better health.
If your pantry is devoid of junk food, you will make healthier snack choices. Instead of junk food, make sure there are plenty of healthy snacks, such as veggies, fruits and nuts in your pantry. Avoid purchasing the foods you should not have so it will not be in your cupboards when you are hungry. Do not buy junk food in the first place.
Get friends in on the action. They are happy to help you! Why else would they have volunteered? Having someone who will cheer you on is really inspiring. They can provide you with the right nudge to keep you going. Don’t be afraid to turn to your friends when you’re having a bad day.
